Irony of Shaping the Future of India

India as a world’s largest democracy retaining its fastest developing nation tag consecutively since past 4-5 years. But, if we break this fastest developing nation tag then a pertinent question arises what lead to development, who is obliged to develop the country. The very intriguing answer to this is government, now the main theme of the blog came into light who chooses the government, its the citizens of India who has constitutional right to vote. Now the part of irony appears which exposes two sides of the same perspective. On one hand the democratically elected government presumes that age of 18 is enough to understand and take rationale decision in electing the leader of the country, contrary to another hand where same government states that one should be minimum 21 years of age (boy) for deciding its own future with respect to marriage. Now, my very question is that on one hand you contending that in order to choose the best partner and for rational decision for future of your own, you should be of at least 21 years (boys) because by the age of 21, you will mature enough socially, economically that help you in good decision making, now government itself states that 18 years of age enough to choose your leader on whom millions of families’s future depend directly and indirectly.

Now, if we see the statistics, the conclusion which we can delineate from it is that majority of students from rural India by the age of 18 doesn’t enrolled in higher educational institutions due to many reasons, now my question is that is the age of 18 is justified where students and young voters are not aware of the socio-economic conditions of the country, they don’t even exposed to the ground realities of corruption, red-tapsim, government facilities, infrastructure etc. If they don’t get to know the realities of the country how would they become informed voters. The very reason of not changing the age limit of voters is that young people are vulnerable to influence by the leaders who give radical speech, who has socio-economic dominance, glorification of politician no matter in good or bad sense etc, that’s why you see in the time of election youth mobilisation plays a vital role in election campaigns, showing dominance in the region etc. There’s a big loop which had been created a long time back but now it’s time to change for the betterment of India and for its people. Now, there’s a big question come into picture that what should be the age limit for voting, if the time of changing comes then the answer to it is very subjective and subject to debate by the experts from different field representing different sections of society and taking consideration of all stakeholders in the society. As per my opinion the voting age should be in between of 21 to 25 years, again subject to debate by the stakeholders of the society. Increasing the voting age led to informed decision making by the youth of the country which represents a large percentage of voters in India. In the very end of the blog, we representing ‘LegalSeeva’.., appeal to the youth of nation to be an informed voters rather than just blindly supporters of any political organisation.
